So, this Saturday was a very important day in the ZimWex Family Household.
Snoopy's. First. Birthday.
On this momentous occasion, we bought Snoopy a treat, stuck a candle in it, and threw a bunch of new toys around the room for him. He was more interested in some almost finished, very stinky, bone. Nonetheless, we had an awfully good time with the whole thing.
So, I thought it was a good moment for reflecting on
10 reasons I am glad we got a dog.
1. He has taught our whole family responsibility. *
2. Gave us an excuse to have all the carpets cleaned.
3. No more wasted Saturday mornings.**
4. I am supporting local businesses.***
5. Much less vacuuming.
6. Real world reasons for my kids not to leave shoes and important papers on the floor. They are gone quickly!
7. When it is time to put all the kids to bed and everyone is grumpy, I can always "volunteer" to walk the dog, and hence get away from it all for a few minutes.
8. While walking the dog, I have met some very fun neighbors, one of whom is a musical theatre actress who shall not be named, but who recently starred in Queen of the Mist.
9. We are no longer deluded, even for a moment, that the streets of New York are clean. More pee on every single block than I EVER could imagine.
10. I had two kids who were TERRIFIED of dogs who are now absolute converts.
Most importantly, Snoopy has brought a whole new dimension of love into our house! So despite the peeing and the pooping and the walking, and the early AM wake up call, we are so very very glad to have him here with us.****
Happy Birthday, Snoopy!
AZ
*Specifically, when it is time for Snoopy to be walked, everyone is suddenly very responsible about all the other things they have to do.
*Alarm goes off at 7:30 even on the weekends!
*** in other words, spending too much money at Beasty Feast and Canine Styes. But the toys are so cute!
****Now, if only some of us would show this love by walking him just a LITTLE more.
Amy, you are weakening my resolve. I have always thought no dog, it would just be the ball and chain that put me over the edge.
But my kids really really want one.
And I have recently met Snoopy.
And he seems reasonable enough.
Plus I want to meet Mary Testa.

:)
You can bring your dog down here for a doggie playdate and we will walk the dog until we see her!
Especially as Snoopy begins to be a little bit older, he seems to be becoming more reasonable...but it is a LOT of work, no question!
