That's right!
The shiksa doesn't know sh*t about throwing a good seder. But for some reason, I felt like I couldn't let another passover pass us over. For years we have been relying on the kindness of strangers for our seder, or skipping it all together.
This year I felt it was time to take some responsibility.
HOWEVER, Jerry had an evening birthday party today and so we had a very SHORT time in which to have a seder (approx. 5:30-6:15..actually these are our normal early bird/midwestern hours.)
So we did passover express. If you are a religious person and you are reading this, you may want to stop now so you don't see how I butchered a centuries old cultural tradition. Really.
I first went to wikipedia and typed in Passover Seder. Pages came up with most of the blessings, dishes, the order of the ceremony, the whole deal.
There was not going to be a Haggadah or a passover plate. However I did incorporate matzoh (and the hiding of the afikomen*), dipping into salt water, lots and lots of grape juice, macaroons, and the story of Passover. Thank goodness that the children (and us) have seen "The Prince of Egypt". Helped us through some of the rough spots.
So I'm not sure that anybody had any kind of spiritual experience**, but it was a start. Can follow next year with haroset, a real honest-to-goodness passover plate, and perhaps even a Haggadah.

ps I am saving this for the end because perhaps you will have stopped reading before this point. But if you are still reading, this is the part of my post where I will confess that I accidentally cooked rice. Later learned that this was not "kosher for passover". Still, I was feeling pretty proud of myself for resisting the urge to make dinner rolls.

**okay, definitely NOBODY had a spiritual experience. They liked singing "Dayenu" because it had the word "die" in it. The definitely liked the goriness of the plagues. But they were generally the tiniest bit unruly.
